Much of this tradition rewards a habit rarely encouraged elsewhere: slow, sustained, undistracted श्रवण, or listening, giving a single piece your full attention for its entire length rather than treating it as background sound for other activity. Even a single dedicated listen, free of distraction, often reveals far more than many casual, half attentive ones.

Setting aside even a short, dedicated period for this kind of focused listening, without other tasks competing for attention, trains the ear considerably faster than the same amount of time spent listening only partially or in passing. Even fifteen genuinely undistracted minutes can teach the ear more than an entire distracted afternoon.

Over weeks and months, this small, consistent habit compounds noticeably, sharpening your ability to hear detail, structure and craft that a distracted, casual listener would likely miss entirely without ever quite noticing what was lost. That compounding benefit is easy to underestimate until you notice how much more you have started to hear.
